Meet the SMPS Seattle Board of Directors for the 2020/2021 Year

Congratulations to the SMPS Seattle 2020/2021 Board of Directors! This slate of officers was approved by members on June 26, 2020. Their term officially begins September 1, 2020 and runs through August 31, 2021.

Melanie Cochrun, CPSM | Director of Marketing + Communications,
GLY Construction

Melanie is Director of Marketing at GLY, a PNW general contractor whose vision is to transform how projects are delivered, create solutions that matter, and build trust that lasts. A Washington native, she graduated from WWU with an English degree and orbited a handful of industries before landing on a construction jobsite in 1999. Her supervisor had the good sense to sign her up for SMPS, and the rest is history. Together with the GLY marketing team, Melanie has been recognized with multiple local and national marketing awards, and she was voted SMPS Seattle Marketer of the Year in 2015. She is a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM).

Liz Wasson Coleman | Marketing Director, Johnston Architects

Liz Coleman joined the A/E/C industry in 2004 and has since held administrative, marketing, and business development roles in Pacific Northwest architecture, engineering, and construction firms. Liz became a member of SMPS in 2014, joined the Membership Committee in 2018, and served as SMPS Seattle’s Director of Membership for 2019-2020. As Marketing Director at Johnston Architects, Liz applies her 16 years of experience in the industry to support the firm’s growth in numerous sectors, leading proposal and interview strategy, business development, public relations, social media, and firm branding. Liz holds a BA from Antioch University Seattle with an emphasis in Arts & Literature.

Heidi Maki | Associate Principal, Marketing & BD, Swenson Say Faget
Past President

Heidi has been serving on the SMPS Seattle board since January 2013, first as the Director of Membership, then Treasurer for 4 years, and now on the last year of the presidential track. As the sole marketer for Swenson Say Faget, she loves the interaction and camaraderie with the entire board and all the volunteers. This year she’s looking forward to serving on the Pacific Regional Conference Committee (get ready for Sacramento in February, crossing fingers!) and helping Melanie and the board wherever needed.

Megan Bergstrom | Marketing Manager, PCS Structural Solutions

Megan is the Marketing Manager at PCS Structural Solutions, a 70-person structural engineering firm with offices in Seattle, Tacoma, and Portland. With five years of experience as an A/E/C/ marketer, she constantly seeks growth and loves that every day brings a new challenge—whether writing, designing, or researching, there’s always something interesting to practice. This is Megan’s second year serving as Secretary for the SMPS Seattle board, and fourth year volunteering with SMPS Seattle.

Mary Bruenn | Marketing Coordinator, NEXUS bec, Inc.

Although she did not intend to enter the AEC industry, Mary worked her way into a marketing role almost 6 years ago. As she learned on the job, she fell in love with the intricacies of this corner of marketing. Without looking back, her self-driven and self-taught career has benefitted greatly by not having to do it alone. SMPS has been the mentor she needed to fill the knowledge gaps.

She has given back to the organization that has given her wings (or was that Red Bull) by volunteering on the treasury committee for over three years. She is looking forward to being able to make a bigger return on the investment SMPS has made in her by assuming the role of Treasurer.

Karen Sullivan | Business Development Manager, Wood Harbinger
Director at Large: Education

Karen joined SMPS 2017 and quickly recognized her tribe. A life-long learner she is passionate about education and committed to bringing quality programs to the chapter. As the Business Development Manager at Wood Harbinger, Karen connects the dots between project opportunities, clients, owners, and her technical staff. She is also responsible for developing and implementing the firm’s strategic marketing plan.

Bill Michie | Marketing Manager, Lydig Construction
Director at Large: Professional Development

Bill has been an AEC marketer for 12 years and a SMPS member just as long. Over his career he served SMPS as a committee member, chair, director, and speaker. As the Marketing Manager for Lydig Construction’s western region, he leads all marketing and communication efforts focused on growth, strategic planning, pursuits, and branding.

Ranjana Sterling | Marketing Manager, Blueline
Director at Large: Special Events

Ranjana is the Marketing Manager at Blueline and loves the all-hands-on-deck approach at her firm and enjoys wearing many hats (accessories!) in her role. In addition to coordinating proposal production, she also supports marketing, social media, and public relations strategies; marketing material and content creation; tracking business development plans and efforts; and managing the website and brand.

Rebecca Crouse | Marketing Specialist, David Evans and Associates, Inc.
Director at Large: Membership

As a Marketing Specialist at David Evans and Associates, Inc., Rebecca supports business development in the Puget Sound and manages a variety of proposals across the US. In addition to moonlighting in the fitness industry, her work experience includes project and proposal management in manufacturing, construction, and engineering.

Jessica Congdon | Marketing Coordinator, Schuchart
Director at Large: Marketing

Jessica is the Marketing Coordinator at Schuchart. She has nearly six years of experience working in the A/E/C industry. At Schuchart, she manages proposals, photography, the website, branded company merchandise, and marketing collateral among other things. She is also heavily involved in Schuchart’s Giving Committee helping organize the company’s charitable events and annual campaigns.

Sandy Chapin | Marketing and Communications Manager, UMC
Senior Advisor

Twenty years in A/E/C marketing and a long history serving SMPS, including 2013-14 Seattle President, has given Sandy a strong understanding of our members’ needs. She is currently Marketing and Communication Manager at UMC. She's excited to rejoin the board and work for the future of SMPS Seattle as Senior Advisor.
