Your Goal for Next Year and How to Achieve It!

By Brandon Peters, Clark Barnes

So by now you may have already decided to become a CPSM, but if you haven’t you should definitely stop reading now and go back to my previous post that provides an overview on the certification process. But as many of you embark on your path to becoming certified, I wanted to follow that post with how you can achieve this in 2019 and the resources available to you!

Scholarships: Right now, literally right now, the Seattle Chapter is offering a scholarship for those who pass the CPSM exam! The scholarship is available for the next 10 people who receive a passing score on the CPSM exam and covers the examination fee! So, if you have been thinking about it or studying for it, now is the time to get registered to take it!

In addition, SMPS National offers a scholarship that includes the study materials (MARKENDIUM & the CPSM v3.1 Study Guide) that goes live in January. This is another option for those who are interested in sitting for the exam! The application is straight-forward, and I will be passing that along to our members as soon as it is posted.

Materials: Did you know that the Seattle Chapter has two copies of MARKENDIUM for loan? Yep, that’s right! If you are starting to prepare and are not able to purchase the copies of the books, please email me to check out a few domains at a time, it is essential to prepare for the exam!

Study Groups: Currently the Seattle Chapter has a study group that meets on the first or second Friday of each month. It is a virtual session at lunchtime in which we go through practice questions and the key concepts of the Domains. Each session we cover two Domains and most of the current group hopes to test in Q1 2019. Sitting in on a session is a great way to see some practice questions and get familiar with how the test will be. If you are interested in joining, please email me. (At the time of publication, the next session will be December 7 at 12:00 pm)

Quarterly Study Session: We are also starting Quarterly Study Sessions which will take place at a variety of locations in Downtown Seattle. These sessions will involve study games, small team breakouts, general overview of the domains and involvement from other great CPSM’s in our chapter to let you know what to expect. Each Quarterly Session will cover three Domains to allow all participants the chance to test after 6 months of studying (although you’ll have to study more than just the two Quarterly sessions).

The first one will be on November 28 at 5-7pm at PCS Structural Solutions.

The other dates for Quarterly Sessions will be January 23, April 24 and July 17, 2019!

CPSM Week: This year will be January 21-25, so aside from the Quarterly Study Session that week, there will also be other fun things planning, so stay tuned for that!

Support: Everyone has a different preferred way of learning and reason for becoming a CPSM. I am here to support you in any way that I can, so please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected] with any questions you have or anything you need in preparing you for a successful exam!
