Meet a Board Member: Heidi Maki, 2016-2017 Treasurer

In June, members of SMPS Seattle voted to approve the 2016-2017 Board of Directors. Stay tuned to learn more about our board members, and don’t miss the Kick-Off Party on September 15th where you’ll get the chance to meet them in person and learn more about plans for the year ahead.

Next, we'd like to introduce you to Heidi Maki, who will be returning as Treasurer.

Name: Heidi Maki

Company: Swenson Say Faget - structural engineers

SMPS Position: Treasurer

Years with SMPS: 21

What excites you the most about the coming 2016-2017 SMPS year?
We have some great new energy joining the board for the 2016-2017 year. To top that off, I have two amazing Treasurer Committee members that are continuing into the new fiscal year with me!

What made you want to be an SMPS Seattle board member?
I was asked to join the board by SMPS members that I have known for a long time. I knew it would be great opportunity to connect with more peers in my industry.

What goals do you have for SMPS Seattle?
Fiscally, I want to maintain our reserves so when the downturn inevitably arrives, we will be able to continue to provide quality programming and events for our membership. In regards to programming, I’d like to see us offer 2 or 3 half-day skill-based educational programs to benefit our membership.  Socially, I hope to provide a welcoming atmosphere for both members and non-members at events.

What do you love most about SMPS?
Being a 1-person marketing department, I love the networking and social aspect of being part of this industry-specific marketing group. I now have a large group of A/E/C marketers with whom I can bounce ideas and ask questions.

What part of your daily routine do you enjoy most?
I love that my daily routine is not routine.  As a marketer for an engineering firm that often serves as a subconsultant, I never know exactly what will be required each day. Will it be providing client-specific company qualifications for an upcoming project (that is due tomorrow!)? Will it be gathering information to update projects? Will it be adding additional project, staff or company information to our website? Will it be posting LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram updates? Will it be researching current or upcoming projects? I also love that I have to have a good understanding of a variety of computer programs to accomplish each of these tasks – it keeps me on my toes.
