Farewell Message from the President

As my year as your chapter president comes to a close, I want to thank you all for the opportunity to lead our wonderful chapter. It's been an inspiring year of Sharing, Building and Celebrating with all of you!

I'm proud to say that with the help of my fantastic board of directors and all of our great chapter volunteers, we accomplished all of the goals that we set out to in our yearly planning session that was held one year ago. They helped to bring my theme "SHARE, BUILD, CELEBRATE" to life for our members.

I want to share with all of you what the Seattle Chapter was up to this past year. Here are some highlights from the 2013-2014 chapter year:

WE SHARED

We wored all year to SHARE the vast resources and deep knowledge that SMPS has to offer, and took every opportunity to make sure our members know the benefits and resources that come with their membership.

  • Increased our event attendance by 19% from the year before.
  • Increased attendance at our quarterly networking events by 100%!
  • Organized four client panels, surpassing our goal by double.
  • Provided 52 CEU opportunities through SMPS Seattle.
  • Held quarterly Fellows Forums that attract people from all walks of our industry, marketing to technical to firm leaders.
  • Launched a new A/E/C Marketing 101 Mini-Series beginning May 1, 2014 - first session sold out.
  • Increased readership of online tools by an average of 24% - exceeding our 10% goal.
  • Launched a new blog and planning for a new e-newsletter next year.
  • Increased number of media clips in the local news by more than 100%
  • Reinvested $5,000 in our members and community.
  • Handed out five scholarships to members and one non-member.

WE BUILT

We BUILT on our strong board and committee structure, the chapter's foundation, and on the momentum that began in 2012 to realize a truly strong volunteer base and succession plan to aid in smooth transitions from year to year. We implemented strong recuitment and retention programs.

  • Increased SMPS Seattle member recruitment by 17%, exceeding our goal of 10%.
  • Retained 87% of our SMPS Seattle members - well above national average!
  • Increased committee involvement to more than 30% of our membership.
  • Implemented emphasis on building our roundtables - now nearly 50% of our membership is on a roundtable.
  • Held the Seattle chapter's first ever 3-year strategic planning session.
  • Built on the Seattle chapter board's succession plan with 38% of the 2013-2014 Board of Directors coming from the previous year's committee chair positions; 50% of Board of Directors being returning board members.
  • Increased our sponsorship income by 63% - that's 38% more than our goal!

WE CELEBRATED

We celebrated our members, our volunteers, our committees, and our accomplishments.

  • Recognized over 50 individual members throughout the year through scholarship, awards, ceremony, new member welcome events and event recognition, committee member spotlights at meetings, member spotlights on the blog.

As you can see, we accomplished a lot this last year thanks to the had work and dedication of our chapter leaders and volunteers. Thank you all!!!

As I pass the torch to our illustrious 2013-2014 President-Elect Jessical Biel, I know that I'm leaving the chapter in amazing hands! As your 2014-2015 President, she will continue our successes and build new ones! I look forward to serving Jessica and the chapter as Past-President this coming year!!

Thank you all for helping us SHARE, BUILD, and CELEBRATE this year!

Sandy Chapin, SMPS Seattle 2013-2014 President
