Welcome to our 2015-2016 Program Year!

by Amy Matsumoto, KPFF Consulting Engineers, SMPS Seattle President

Happy New SMPS Program Year! For SMPS, September marks the beginning of a new Board of Directors. I am honored to be representing the chapter as your president for the 2015-2016 program year and am grateful for your support. I also find myself extremely fortunate to work with an amazing and talented group of volunteers who serve on the board along with the volunteers who serve on the committees!

We have already had a busy month! Our theme this year is BeSMPS. We started to "BeSMPS" at our strategic planning meeting where the board fine-tuned year two of our chapter's three-year strategic plan. Our ongoing goals for the year are:

  • Build our committees to ensure a solid succession plan from year to year.
  • Foster relationships with peer associations to elevate the value of SMPS.
  • Provide streamlined, effective communication that establishes SMPS Seattle as an industry thought leader that delivers valuable content that entertains, educates and informs.
  • Improve knowledge base and expertise of marketers through education and programming.
  • Offer fun, relevant networking events that attract a range of industry professionals and foster relationships and business opportunities.

With these goals in mind, each committee has already put in a tremendous amount of work planning programs and events for the year.

Our year began in early September with the Fellows Forum "Plans, Budgets, and Bears! Oh My!" where we discussed with the Fellows and guest speaker, Kristy Alley, the nuances of marketing budgets and how different firms approach them.

Our Kick-Off Party included introductions of the new board and 80 of your closest marketing and A/E/C industry peers enjoying good conversation, the fabulous Seattle views, giant Jenga, food and refreshments!

Our September luncheon speaker, Gregor Schmidt from Studo 5 Innovation, spoke about "More Than Text and Images: How Content Energizes Digital Marketing" and provided an enormous amount of information for the digital marketing world.
