We're pleased to welcome national speaker, writer, and blogger Susan Murphy to seattle!

Nobody knows presentations and interviews in the world of A/E/C like Susan Murphy. Join us for our Fall workshop and hear the best of her extensive interview coaching experience and knowledge, as she breaks it down for you to practice in the here and now.

But this is not a lecture or personality dependent. A high-spirited and fun morning begins with helping you figure out what should go into your presentation or interview—the bait that gets that desired client or audience to respond to your ideas. Then Susan shows you how to back up your intellectual bait with the physical skills that make you look as smart, experienced and professional as you are. From colleagues to clients, you will discover how to communicate for results.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • BenchmarkA non-judgmental look at what the participant usually does when communicating.

    • Controlling NervousnessHow to keep your body from getting in the way of your mind.

    • Physical SkillsHow to look as commanding, intelligent and as competent as you are.

    • Gathering Intelligence – How to get the information and use it most effectively.

    • Working as a Team – How to make your team work seamlessly.

    • Changing Direction – How to think on your feet. How to be flexible if goals change.

    • Closing – How to get an agreement. How to negotiate.

    • Coaching Yourself & Your Colleagues – How to keep the momentum going and establish a firm-wide standard.

    • Questions & Answers – How to keep your foot out of your mouth and emphasize your point.

    • Tools – How to be sure your tools (meetings, visuals, handouts, etc.) support you and your message. How to stay in control.

Susan puts you to work and guides you in practicing proven skills in your way. You will leave with a new awareness of your skills as well as newfound approaches to landing the big one. And you will also have a terrific time. Susan Murphy is hilarious.

    SUSAN MURPHY
    FOUNDER, MURPHY MOTIVATON AND TRAINING

Susan Murphy has in-depth knowledge and experience in the AEC industry. She is a national speaker, writer, blogger, and has spent the last 29 years helping architects, engineers, and construction firms hone their presentation and interview skills.

Murphy, as most know her, has a MapQuest-worthy career path. In high school and college, she worked in retail and as a fashion coordinator, went on to teach high school English, the moved to the travel industry. A career change found Susan at Communispond, the world’s leading communication skills consultant at the time, and fate led her to a SMPS National Conference, where she filled in for a canceled speaker and was smitten by the industry. Susan founded Murphy Motivation and Training to focus on the A/E/C world, and thinks she is the luckiest woman on the planet to have found her niche.

Susan divides her time between Beaufort, South Carolina and Bozouls, France. Her advice column Aunt Bossy: Dear Abby on Steroids is found online in the Lowcountry Weekly. When she isn’t teaching, coaching or writing, she hikes with her rescue boyfriends, Puppy Boy Frankie, and Jean Jacques, the French Orphan cat. Neither is very impressed with her training abilities.
