SMPS Seattle Lunch: Collaborating Effectively with Practice Professionals

It takes two to tango.  It also takes both marketing and billable staff to make marketing projects successful.  This moderated session brings together three pairs of marketers and practice professionals to shed light on common misunderstandings to help all of us collaborate more effectively.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the most common misunderstandings between marketers and practice staff.
  • Learn tips for communicating and collaborating effectively with those who have a different perspective.
  • Develop the confidence to take ownership for solving communications disconnects.



Sarah Wortman, CPSM is the Director of Business Development at GGLO, an architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and urban design firm headquartered in Seattle.  She has worked in marketing for architecture firms for over 20 years so she is expert at managing both up and down.


James Bradley, AIA is the Managing Principal of GGLO and leads the firm’s Hospitality practice. He is actively involved with the marketing staff on a daily basis as the leader of GGLO’s Executive Committee and an active business developer.


Marcie Lohr, CPSM 
Marice is the Marketing Manager at Coughlin Porter Lundeen. She has more than 20 years of experience in the AEC industry and is responsible for all facets of marketing communications (and supplying the daily M&M fix for staff) and collaborates with the firm's leadership team in business development and strategic planning.


Chris Duvall, PE, SE 
Chris is a Principal at Coughlin Porter Lundeen, and guides the firm’s marketing and business development efforts. His work is divided between public and private projects that utilize all building materials, including traditional and those on the cutting-edge of development.


Bill Michie
Bill leads all marketing and communication efforts for Lydig Construction’s western region. As the Marketing Manager, he plays an integral role in the company’s growth, strategic planning, pursuits, and branding. He frequently collaborates with leadership and the company’s eastern region marketing team on corporate efforts. Bill’s diverse background includes over 10 years focused on construction marketing.


Bill Dobyns, LEED AP, DBIA
Bill is the Vice President of Business Development in Lydig's Bellevue office. He has extensive knowledge of the construction industry with more than 30 years of construction experience on public and private projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. His expertise lies in alternative delivery methods including design-build, GC/CM and CM at Risk.




Kenda Salisbury, FSMPS, CPSM
Kenda is a past SMPS Seattle President and a world ranked Yahtzee with Buddies player.  Currently she is the business development lead for Degenkolb Engineers in the Pacific Northwest. Her engaging communications style, quick wit and solid BS meter make her the right person to moderate this panel.
