Media Relations is one of many tools in a Professional Marketer’s toolkit. It can influence, engage, and build relationships between your firm and your clients across multiple platforms. It can also raise awareness and generate interest in your firm, your people, your projects, and your events. But how do you know what reporters and editors think is newsworthy? And how do you pitch story ideas that secure coverage of your firm’s expertise, work, and staff promotions in the local and national press?

Join us on May 19th and find out! We’ve assembled a group of panelists from Gray Magazine, Puget Sound Business Journal, the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, and The Registry to discuss and answer these questions and many more. Is there a “right” way to write a press release? How do you submit it? And to whom? What’s an editorial calendar, and why should you pay attention to them? What is a press cycle? How do you write for multiple channels (traditional media, web, social) Can you leverage copy across multiple channels? How does placement impact reach?

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand what key local reporters and editors are looking for and what they consider news

  2. Learn do’s and don’ts for how to pitch a story effectively

  3. Develop a better understanding of what is and isn’t newsworthy so you can advise your professional practice colleagues

  4. Understand the basics of press cycles, editorial calendars, and writing for multiple channels
